Tournament Rules

   

All Hockey Canada and NSAAF rules apply, in addition:

1. Any player receiving a Match Penalty, Gross Misconduct, or a 5-minute Fighting Major Penalty will be suspended from further tournament play

2. Any other Game Misconducts will be dealt with in the normal SSNS format

3. Any coach, official who, in the opinion of the tournament committee, displays poor sportsmanship shall be suspended from the tournament

4. Proof of age of players must be available upon request of the Tournament Committee.  No player 19 years of age prior to 30 September 2025 shall be permitted to play

5. No protests will be entertained, and all REFEREE decisions are final

6. Games will begin as close as possible to their scheduled time

7. Teams will vacate the dressing rooms 20 minutes after the game, leaving them in a clean state

8. Flood Schedule: a 5-minute warm up before each game with flooding after warmup and 2nd period

9. ALL games will consist of three 15-minute stop clock periods.

In the event of a 5-goal spread in the third period, time will change to straight time and will not revert back if margin narrows.  Minor penalties will be 3 minutes and majors will be 7 minutes in duration during straight time.

10. Each team is permitted one 30 second timeout per game.

11. Points awarded in Round Robin play will be as follows: 

3 points for a regulation win,

2 points for overtime/shootout win, and 1 point for overtime/shootout loss

0 points for a regulation loss

After round robin play has concluded, teams will be seeded according to points. Top 2 teams from each division will be seeded: 1st Ross vs 2nd Mason and 2nd Ross vs 1st Mason

12. Tie-breaking procedure, if necessary, to determine seeding in the crossover games are as follows:

      Head-to-Head

      Highest goal differential—Total Goals FOR minus Total Goals AGAINST

      Greatest Goals FOR

      Least Penalty Minutes

13. For round robin, crossover and final games, in event of a tie game after regulation time, the following format will be used

        a)  A 5-minute sudden death victory 3 on 3 overtime period. If a penalty occurs during 3 on 3 play, the offending team will play 4 on 3 disadvantage.  When the penalty expires, the teams will play 4 on 4 until the next stoppage of play. At that time, 3 on 3 will resume.

       b)  If still tied: A shoot out – each team will have 3 shooters and a goalie.  The teams will alternate shots on the opposing goaltender until each of the 3 shooters has had a turn.  The team scoring the most goals will be declared the winner.  If still tied, the teams will choose 3 different shooters, with this round being sudden victory. Penalty shot rules apply.  The visiting team will shoot first. No player can shoot twice until all players have been used. Any player serving a penalty at the time 3 on 3 overtime has expired is not eligible for shoot out.

14. No player change during icing rule will be in effect for the entire tournament.

15. HOME team will wear DARK jerseys and AWAY will wear WHITE jerseys

16. Any team that does not show up for a game will lose by default with a score of 5-0
